From Humble Beginnings To Global Finance<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Recounting her early years, Girotra highlighted the stark realities of starting out in a male-dominated industry. Despite being a gold medalist from the Delhi School of Economics, her initial roles were far from glamorous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was asked to fetch coffee, manage small tasks, things that had nothing to do with finance,\u201d she said, pointing to the gender biases prevalent at the time. \u201cThere was a belief that women wouldn\u2019t stay long in demanding careers like investment banking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet, those experiences shaped her resilience. Guided by her father\u2019s advice to leave ego aside and embrace learning, Girotra steadily built a career spanning institutions like UBS and Moelis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India\u2019s Shift: From Fragile To Resilient<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

According to Girotra, India today stands on far stronger footing than when she began her career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the past, global shocks would immediately impact India. Today, our domestic economy provides insulation,\u201d she explained. The rise of domestic mutual funds, deeper capital markets, and strong regulatory frameworks have reduced reliance on foreign institutional investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also pointed to global shifts like the \u201cChina Plus One\u201d strategy as a major opportunity. \u201cIndia is increasingly being seen as a safe haven due to its stability, reforms, and digitisation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Private equity investments, growing domestic M&A activity, and increasing participation from Indian companies in global deals further signal this maturity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Gender Gap Persists<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While progress has been made, Girotra believes gender inequality remains a significant challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAt the entry level, girls outperform boys consistently. But mid-career, many drop off due to societal expectations,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite improvements such as workplace policies, flexible hours, and greater awareness, leadership roles still lack adequate female representation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA woman\u2019s career is often seen as optional, not essential. That mindset needs to change,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advice For The Next Generation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For young professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs, Girotra emphasised resilience and perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDon\u2019t be obsessed with titles. Focus on learning and building capability,\u201d she advised. She also encouraged embracing failure as a stepping stone rather than a setback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a rapidly evolving economy, she believes adaptability and a willingness to learn will define success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Road Ahead<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

India\u2019s growth story is far from complete, but the foundations are stronger than ever. With increasing global interest, robust domestic participation, and a new generation of entrepreneurs, the country is poised for sustained expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
